Footwear & Ingrown Toenails
Footwear is one of the common contributing factors we see in patients with recurring ingrown toenails.
Common Footwear Issues
Small Shoes
Pressure from the front of the shoe may force the nail into the surrounding skin.
Narrow Toe Boxes
Crowded toes may increase pressure on the nail edges.
School Shoes
Children and teenagers often outgrow shoes quickly, leading to excessive pressure.
Safety Boots
Work boots may place ongoing pressure on the nail, particularly during long shifts.
Sports Footwear
Football boots, soccer boots and running shoes may contribute if the fit is not appropriate.
Footwear Assessment.
Where appropriate, footwear assessment forms part of our treatment approach.
Patients may be asked to bring their most commonly worn shoes to their appointment.
